Pine Shavings

A lot of different companies sell pine shavings. Heck, some companies even make it a contest trying to sell different types of pine shavings to different customers under different brand names. Talk about a sure fire way to confuse your customer!

Additionally, there are a lot of private label agreements in the pine shavings business as well. I know that several competitors of ours sell their product to Tractor Supply or Southern States, for example. It goes into a private label for their customer.

We don't sell our pine shavings to the big boys of farm supply. We never have and probably never will. We just don't need to (for the record, we do sell some of our products in our own bag and brand name to a few independent Southern States stores). We do not offer our product under a different name or logo to someone else.

If you have ever bought Pine River Bedding directly from us, then you know that we love to talk to our customers. We will take care of your load from production to delivery and keep you in the loop during the entire process. It's one of the things we do really well.

So let's switch gears and talk about pine trees for a moment. Pine trees can make some really interesting lumber. That lumber turns into some really pretty pine shavings as well. At last count, there were between 105-125 varieties of pine tree in North America that can be made into lumber and shavings. Most companies focus on just 2-3 varieties in order to make the majority of lumber and pine shavings that they sell to the general public (Think Home Depot and Lowe's).

We only use one variety of pine to make our Eastern Sweet Pine Shavings. We only use the Eastern White Pine, or Pinus Strobus, in order to make our Eastern Sweet Pine shavings. That is why they are so pretty and pure white. We don't mix them, or use fillers either. These shavings turn out of the highest quality, are really dry, are very absorbent, and have low dust in the bales as well.

A Few More Thoughts On Horse Bedding

The last time we wrote about horse bedding, we did a recap of all the different types of bedding that are commonly used. That list included straw, shavings, wood pellets, paper, peat moss, hemp, stall mats, and even hay. By the end of that article, we concluded that there were really only 2 options that were available nationwide, and were inexpensive for most consumers. Those top two choices for horse bedding were shavings and wood pellets.

We also offered our input on the horse bedding options we have here at Pine River Bedding.

"Educated consumers should know that Pine River Bedding offers 2 very different products as economical and readily available options inside your stall. Our Pine River Bedding Double Quick Pick and Pine River Bedding Gold Stallion Pellets have both been on the market for years at this point. Both products are purchased for different reasons.

Both of our products are available in poly bales with caps for outdoor storage. This allows you to keep your inside storage space clear for other needs throughout the year.

Pine River Bedding Double Quick Pick is preferred for the customer that wants to do less coat maintenance on their horses. By using 100% all natural pine sawdust, the feces is coated in sawdust as the horse moves it around the stall. Should the horse roll in the feces, or lie down on top of it, then the sawdust keeps most of the feces from getting onto the coat of the horse.

Pine River Bedding Gold Stallion Pellets are preferred by the customer that is willing to pay a little more for convenience and ease of use. Pellets involve much less labor cost than other horse bedding types when it comes to handling. Additionally, the pellets take up less room to store, and there is less waste to handle as compared to straw. We do recommend that you spray the pellets with some water to make them lighter and fluffier for the horse to lay on."

We received some amazing feedback about that article and just wanted to thank everyone for jumping in and sharing. We really do try to provide thoughtful and informative articles for our fans.

Should you find yourself in the market for horse bedding, please give us a call. We would be more than happy to get you a price on shavings or pellets for your animals.

Equine Bedding Pellets

We get asked all the time about other products that no one realizes we sell. One of those products is our equine pelleted bedding known as Pine River Bedding Gold Stallion Pellets.

It's okay. We understand why there may be some confusion about this. We made our name by offering the highest quality white pine shavings available on the market today, PRB Eastern Sweet Pine. They were quickly adopted in full force by the show animal industry and we have been running since then.

Our Gold Stallion is pretty special as well. Give me a few moments to explain why we think so highly of it.

To start with, Gold Stallion is made from 100% natural pine sawdust. This means your horses are standing and sleeping on a clean, safe, and completely natural pine product.

Additionally, our pellets are 100% biodegradable. You are helping the environment in 2 different ways when you use our product. First, you are using the sawdust in the pellet. This keeps the sawdust from being burned into the atmosphere. Then, by using the pellet as bedding and returning it to the earth upon disposal, you are recycling the sawdust back into the earth. This creates a win-win for the environment long term.

Last, our product is as good or better than any other brand name available on the market. They all come from the same type of pellet mill operation.  As much as some of our competitors would like to tell you how much better some of their products are, that just is not the case. Nobody is making their pellets drastically different than anyone else.
