How many times do you get asked a simple question like, "Do you have any sawdust for sale?"
We get it all the time here at Pine River Bedding. In fact, we get asked so many of the same questions that we created a FAQ in order to help the average person find an answer faster than we can reply to the question.
But if I were a retailer, and we sell to a lot of retailers, that specific question would bother me. It would bother me for one specific reason. How could you be a customer in my store that sells a variety of shavings and not know that we carry sawdust?
Before you pull your hair out trying to figure out why something so simple is so darn complicated at times, let me help. You see, most customers are already in your store because someone told them you were the place to go. They most likely asked a friend or work colleague about the situation they were in and someone suggested they go to your store in order to fix the problem. Customers are in the store to buy now. They need whatever the item is right this second.
Step back and ask yourself a question. This customer took the time to ask about sawdust. How many are not bothering to ask someone about sawdust at all?
When we walk into the same building or department day after day, we get complacent with product selection AND placement. This specific customer at least took the time to ask about a product they need. Many won't. Sometimes all it takes to change sales of an item is to make some sense of location. Other times you might need better graphics or displays. Where is your customer using this sawdust? Don't be afraid to ask them.
Over the years, people have used sawdust in butcher shops, car repair centers, farms, and oil facilities. It does a really good job absorbing liquid and is perfectly safe for the environment. My customer expects to use it as a bedding for their animals. Maybe yours doesn't.
So before you go crazy when someone asks a question like, "Do you have any sawdust for sale?", ask yourself another question. Do I have the right product in the right location for the perfect customer? Maybe the answer is yes, but if they keep asking about a certain product all the time, then the answer is most likely no.
